Heretic II 2024 AmigaOS 4 update
Brussels – June 28, 2024
A free update for Heretic II 2024 for AmigaOS 4 is available for immediate download for all users that have bought their license from Alinea Computer or any other distributors.
Steffen Häuser is responsible for the port and this update contains small improvements on CD Audio and bug fixes. This update offers:
- Two versions of quake2.so, one of them plays Ogg Vorbis Music files instead of CD Audio, the other one CD Audio as up to now (copy the one you want to use as quake2.so into your Heretic II directory).
- Interface to manipulate what Audio is used is "cd ?" as up to now, regardless if you use the CD Audio version or the Ogg Vorbis version.
- In the CD Audio version the bug that it always would shuffle, regardless of cd_shuffle console variable, has been fixed
- cd_shuffle console variable now exists, and is preset to 0
- For software renderer the bilinear filtering before was only accessible by using the console. It is now available in the ingame settings.
- The fixes on multiplayer skin from Update 1 are also included in this update
- The update also includes Ogg Vorbis versions of the CD Audio tracks, just copy base/music to your HereticII/ directory.
- Removes "Palleted" chooser of Video GL (it never did anything anyways, neither MiniGL nor GL4ES support palettes).
- Corrects calculation of CD Track length for CD Audio version.The update can be found in the download section of Hyperion’s website.
The update can be found in the download section of Hyperion’s website.
Note: there has been an update 1 shared within small group, but it was not officially released. Update 2 includes the all the changes of update 1.

Alinea Computer offers Quake 2 as a digital version for AmigaOS 4.x
Brussels – April 17, 2024
Alinea Computer has taken over the distribution of Quake 2 for AmigaOS 4. The first Amiga version of Quake 2 dates back to 2002 by Hyperion Entertainment and has been continued and greatly improved in this tradition. Steffen Häuser is responsible for the port and has implemented numerous improvements. In addition to support for various mission CDs and mods, GL4ES/Warp3DNova support and playing soundtracks as OGG Vorbis have also been implemented.
The AmigaOS 4 version is available for download from Alinea Computer.
It should be noted that to run the AmigaOS 4 version of Quake 2, the data files of the PC version are required. These can be purchased at a reasonable price, for example, via Steam. Freely available mods and mission CDs are already available on Aminet.
Features and system requirements at a glance:
Features:
- AmigaOS 4 native version
- GL4ES, MiniGL, and Software Renderer
- full support for mission CDs "The Reckoning" and "Ground Zero"
- Ports of the unofficial mission CD "Zaero" and about 50 multiplayer mods will be released soon on os4depot/Aminet, these downloads require the new version of Quake 2
- AmigaInput support
- CD audio works again (in the old version only compatible with older CD drives)
- As an alternative to CD audio, Ogg Vorbis files can be played as a soundtrack, in this case, the music files from this version are preinstalled with a Steam/Gog install
- Installer now works with both PC CD version of Quake 2 and with the Steam and Gog Classic version, using the Steam/Gog Classic installer will also install the two mission CDs. We recommend using the Steam version for easy installation.
- As an alternative to the .cin intros, the game now also supports .avi and .mpeg files (a script to convert the .ogv files of the Steam version is included on the ISO, if you want the higher resolution video files)
System Requirements:
- Software: AmigaOS 4.1 and the data files from Steam, Gog, or CD version.
- Hardware: At least 150 MHz PowerPC, 32 MB RAM, Graphics card, at least
- 1 GB of free hard disk space, A1222 is currently not supported, game can also be played on QEmu and UAE PPC
Hyperion Entertainment releases Hotfix for AmigaOS 3.2.2
Brussels – April 23, 2023 Hyperion Entertainment is providing a Hotfix for the recently released AmigaOS 3.2.2 update.
Critical bugs were found soon after the AmigaOS 3.2.2 release which need to be addressed promptly.
The Hotfix 3.2.2.1 comes as two separate and distinct installers.
- The first features an updated installation archive, for those who have not yet installed the AmigaOS 3.2.2 update.This includes the changes from the hotfix, so you don't need to install it afterwards. Please follow the instructions as described at the enclosed "HowToInstall" text.
- The second is a smaller installation archive, to be used with an existing AmigaOS 3.2.2 system. The hotfix adf should be used which can be found under the "ADFs/Hostfix" folder.
The following problems are addressed by this Hotfix:
- Slowness of ReAction programs using page.gadget (part of the layout.gadget file);
- GIF-datatype incorrectly refused to run on plain 68000 Amigas, e.g. Amiga 600 ;
- Rendering and undo issues in IconEdit, if used with CyberGraphX;
- Other small fixes in IconEdit and TextEdit.
You can download Hotfix 3.2.2.1 for AmigaOS 3.2 here.
We wish to thank the users that quickly drew our attention to these issues. While we are aware of other reported problems, which have yet to be addressed, we still feel the need to release this Hotfix now.
